Junk-Phone Recycling into Gold Mining
Japan - Who would have thought that the wreckage of old phones can result to tens of kilograms of gold worth billions. Hard to believe ? Well, Japan has proven it. Announced by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, 567 thousand mobile phones has been gathered in recycling program that was held by the Japanese government.
Junk phones could become ‘precious metal mines’, because apparently phones contained a variety of high-value metals. Quoted from Sanluisobispo, Monday (8/3/2010), the mobile phone recycling program obtained a variety of precious metals, such as 22 kilograms of gold worth 70 million yen or approximately USD 7 billion, 79 kg of silver, copper 5670 kg and 2 kg of palladium. Amazing isn’t ?
Japan is one country that vigorously campaigning phone recycling program parents. Around 1800 electronic retail stores has been participating in recycling campaign that was held November 2009-February 2010 this.
67 Percent of The World Population Owns Mobiles :)
The phone seemed to have become a ‘must’ for many people. Not only in rich countries, but also has penetrated the poorest countries in the world. Quoted from Stlttoday, Thursday (25/2/2010), the UN Telecommunications Agency (International Telecommunication Union) report, approximately 4.6 billion or 67 percent of the population has been using the phone.
This amount increases from year to year. In 2002, there were only 1 billion mobile phone users in the world. “The level is incredibly grows,” said UN Telecommunications Agency.
UN Telecommunications Agency report covers the use of mobile phone, home phone and Internet usage in 159 countries. From the report revealed that 1.7 billion people or 26 percent of the total population connected to the internet world last year, up from 11 percent in 2002. However, there are also alarming facts revealed, that four out of five people who live in poor countries have not been touched bye the internet connection
1.2 Billion Mobile Phones Sold in 2009
Telecommunications equipment businesses were still one prominent interest in the world. Last year alone, the world mobile phone sales had reached 1.211 billion units. Wow! The results of the research institute was recently released by Gartner analyst.
Even so, the number is still 0.9% lower than mobile phone sales in 2008. Whereas in the 2009 fourth quarter, sales of mobile phones had penetrated the number 340 million units or 8.3% climb than the same quarter the previous year.
Carolina Milanesi, the Research Director of Gartner announced that mobile device market had gone through with positive results during 2009 and, driven by growth in the range of smart phones and mobile lower classes. As quoted by Cellular News, Thursday (25 / 2 / 2010)Milanesi also said that the vendors that focus on smartphones like Apple and Research in Motion gained a great success compared to other mobile vendors, they controlled 14.4% and 19.9% of the world smartphone market
