Latest Research Sunglasses with Improved UV Blocking
Anywhere you live, doesn’t have to be in tropics like me, sunglasses is familiar around. In my country, this accessory is most worn especially in hot season by day to comfort our precious eyes. Related to technology, sunglasses has been modified for more than just a protector. I still remember in about early of this year, mp3 sunglasses has been quite a techie gadget.
Today I just read an article about another innovation about sunglasses. It is based on a research from Penn State that found that the adding of cerium oxide into sunglasses. The researchers discovered that the addition of Cerium Oxide in sunglasses, windows and solar cells will block UV light more effectively. Cerium Oxide will also increase the radiation resistance.
But there’s a certain condition to optimize Cerium Oxide. The sunglasses made for this project must be a phosphate glass rather than silicate glass like in traditional sunglasses. Phosphate glass is able to hold more cerium.
Regarding with the research result, it is not possible that phosphate glasses will be a prominent material for windows and solar cells in the future.
