Sharp these days is more known as a TV manufacture, now Sharp is beginning to enter the eBook reader device. The Tokyo-Japan based company is currently working on two models of eBook Readers that can be used to watch the video and listening to audio contents. In addition, Sharp is also preparing eBook distribution service.

Second Reader eBooks are still in the prototype stage and reportedly soon will be launched near the end of 2010 this year. One of them will have a 5.5 inch screen and the other with a larger 10.8-inch screen. Both are equipped with color touch screen feature.

As quoted from the Good eReader website yesterday, Sharp eBooks will use the XMDF format. This format is very popular and widely used in Japan for its ability to bridge the gap between the text and format to view video content. “Latest XMDF lets users more easily see digital content including video and audio, and there is automatic adjustment for the layout in order to match the needs of publishers,” said one senior executive of Sharp, Masami Obatake. Obatake added that the e-publishing business is very attentive these days. So it is considered the launch of two devices and distribution service of Sharp eBooks later this year will be a very appropriate time.
