The leadership of the largest mobile phone vendor in Western Europe started to shift. Nokia’s long ruled as the number one mobile phone manufacturers must surrender his throne to Samsung Electronics. Notes research from IDC firm stated that Samsung overthrew Nokia in the first quarter of 2011. Total sales of Samsung mobile phones increased by 5% from the prior year period, so 29%. While Nokia declined 10% and should be satisfied with 28% market share. Being at the next position is Apple with 9.8% market share. Then followed by Research in Motion (RIM) with 7.8% and HTC in fifth place with 7.8% achievement.

Although the distance is very thin, the fall of Nokia by Samsung felt quite surprising. For the Finnish vendor has so long controlled the market in Western Europe, since the 1990s. “Nokia is one brand that is best-known and appreciated in Europe. But Samsung understands more about the trends that occur and move quickly,” said IDC analyst, Francisco Jeronimo, quoted by Reuters on Monday (05/09/2011).
